SPC in one sentence
SPC flooring is luxury vinyl plank built on a rigid stone plastic composite core: waterproof, dent resistant and stable, with a printed wood look protected by a clear wear layer.
How the layers work
Wear layer: the clear top coat that resists scratches, measured in mil (12, 20, 22 or 28 mil in our lines).
Print layer: the high-resolution wood or stone look.
SPC core: the dense limestone and PVC core that makes the plank rigid and waterproof.
Backing: many planks have an attached pad underneath for comfort and sound.
Why people choose SPC
Waterproof core for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and homes with pets.
Dent resistant under furniture and appliances.
Stable in heat, which matters near big Texas windows.
Clicks together and floats over a flat slab, so installs are fast: we usually finish a 1,000 sq ft job in a day.
SPC vs WPC vs laminate
WPC has a softer foamed core: warmer and quieter, but easier to dent and usually more expensive.
Laminate has a wood-fiber core that can swell if water gets into the seams. We focus on vinyl plank for that reason.

Frequently asked questions
What does SPC stand for?
Stone plastic composite. The core is a dense blend of limestone powder and PVC, which is why SPC is also called rigid core vinyl plank.
Is SPC flooring waterproof?
Yes. The stone-and-PVC core does not absorb water, so spills, pet accidents and mopping will not swell the planks.
Is SPC better than WPC?
For most Texas homes, yes: it is more dent resistant, more stable in heat, and costs less. WPC is softer and quieter underfoot. See our SPC vs WPC guide for a full comparison.
How much does SPC flooring cost?
At 254 Floors, SPC rigid core runs $1.70 to $3.49 per square foot depending on thickness and wear layer, or $3.45 to $5.24 installed by our own crews.
